New development project autumn 2026!
Our school library
- time and space for extra-linguistic storytelling
How can a school library be shaped into a place for all students to explore, express themselves, communicate and tell stories? How can extra-linguistic forms of expression with a focus on sensory experience and broadened perspectives on language, reading and storytelling in a (school) library context increase accessibility for all students? How can encounters and a sense of community between students with widely varying abilities be created within the school?
In autumn 2026, we are starting a new development project together with Valdemarsro Adapted Upper Secondary School! The aim is to challenge current ideas about what a school library in an adapted school can be, and to ask what it could be instead – a place where extra-linguistic values and perspectives are given a natural and central place. We hope to include more students, create encounters across differences in ability, and challenge traditional ideas about what a story and storytelling can be.
The collaboration takes its starting point in "Vintergatans bibliotek" – a performing arts experience that Kollaborativet previously developed with municipal neighbourhood libraries as venues, as part of the now completed project "Nära Dig och Vintergatan". But the spatial installation and the shared experience that "Vintergatans bibliotek" invites people into are only a starting point. Together with students and staff, we want to explore what a school library could be…?
To bring further perspectives into the project, we are also in dialogue with Liselott Mariett Olsson, Professor of Education at Malmö University. Her research focuses on aesthetic forms of expression and the conditions for equitable education. She is also one of the researchers with whom Kollaborativet has maintained a continuous collaboration over the years.
The shared process at Valdemarsro Adapted Upper Secondary School will be documented and can be followed on our BLOG, starting in November 2026!

One student - One world of impressions
A new development project aimed at students who need extraordinary circumstances to be able to participate in arts and cultural experiences at school.
The purpose of the project is to create knowledge and concrete examples of how all students can be included in creative experiences within the school setting – even those for whom barriers are greatest.
The work is entirely based on each student’s individual abilities and needs, taking place in the classroom and within the time of day that is possible for the student.
The project is divided into two periods. During the spring term, we work with Valdemarsro Adapted Upper Secondary School (gymnasium).
Helena Dahlberg, philosopher and associate professor in nursing science at the University of Gothenburg, will follow the process at Valdemarsro. She will focus on boundaries and overlaps between pedagogy and art, as well as questions regarding shifts of power in these spaces, where perception is highlighted rather than spoken language. Her study will include observations of what emerges in the encounter with each student, as well as interviews with members of Kollaborativet, the student's teachers, assistants, and the school principal.
In the autumn, the development project continues in a second period, carried out in collaboration with Kroksbäck Adapted Elementary School.

Completed project! (1 April 2024 – 31 May 2026)
Through the project Nära Dig och Vintergatan, Kollaborativet, together with children with disabilities and the adults close to them, developed a range of five performing arts formats, all based on sensory experience, communication, interaction and flexibility:

The project period has now come to an end, but the different formats we developed over these two years together with the children and the adults close to them will remain as an integrated part of Kollaborativet’s work.
The project Nära Dig och Vintergatan was rooted in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and every child’s right to participate in arts and cultural life. It also responded to the fact that many children and young people with disabilities rarely or never participate in, or are represented at, arts and cultural activities in public spaces. At Kollaborativet, we will continue this work towards a more accessible, inclusive and flexible cultural life – one that is shaped by the participation and circumstances of children and the adults close to them. We will do this both by offering activities for families in their free time and by sharing knowledge and providing inspiration within the performing arts sector.
