Nära dig och Vintergatan
(Near you and the Milky Way)

- Being part of cultural life, wherever you are and wish to be

All children have the right to participate in arts and cultural life. This is a building block of democracy and a legal right under the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. Yet many children and young people with diverse abilities rarely or never take part in, or are visible at, arts and cultural activities in public spaces.

Nära dig och Vintergatan is a project supported by the Swedish Postcode Lottery Foundation, where we explore four new ways to reach more children:

  • Hemma på Vintergatan – sensory performing arts experiences delivered directly to the homes of families who have signed up.

  • Besök på Vintergatan – experiences designed for short-term care facilities.

  • Vintergatans bibliotek – experiences adapted for libraries.

  • Workshops på Vintergatan – activities aimed at creating participation during free time.

One student - One world of impressions

A new development project aimed at students who need extraordinary circumstances to be able to participate in arts and cultural experiences at school.

The purpose of the project is to create knowledge and concrete examples of how all students can be included in creative experiences within the school setting – even those for whom barriers are greatest.

The work is entirely based on each student’s individual abilities and needs, taking place in the classroom and within the time of day that is possible for the student.

The project is divided into two periods. During the spring term, we work with Valdemarsro Adapted Upper Secondary School (gymnasium).

Helena Dahlberg, philosopher and associate professor in nursing science at the University of Gothenburg, will follow the process at Valdemarsro. She will focus on boundaries and overlaps between pedagogy and art, as well as questions regarding shifts of power in these spaces, where perception is highlighted rather than spoken language. Her study will include observations of what emerges in the encounter with each student, as well as interviews with members of Kollaborativet, the student's teachers, assistants, and the school principal.

In the autumn, the development project continues in a second period, carried out in collaboration with Kroksbäck Adapted Elementary School.

Supported by the Swedish Arts Council – Strengthened Culture in Schools (Stärkt kultur i skolan).

Röra!

- A sensory exhibition on tour

RÖRA! opened at Malmö Konsthall in the summer of 2024 and is a touring exhibition by Kollaborativet, available for booking.

The exhibition is based on documentation in the form of photos, film, and sound from a co-creating artistic process with students and teachers at Valdemarsro Adapted Upper Secondary School in Malmö.

The material is presented in a sensory space with tactile, inviting objects and atmospheric lighting, where visitors are free to move around and interact.

Through the exhibition, we want to make children and young people with disabilities visible in their creative processes, and give them space in public settings.

RÖRA! is aimed both at families with children with disabilities and at other people who have little or no experience or contact with this broad group of children and young people.
