Sensory experience and participation

Characteristic of Kollaborativet is that we create sensory performing arts, continuously develop co-creating collaborative processes with children and young people with diverse abilities and their educators, and maintain an ongoing dialogue with a number of researchers.

A performing arts collective based in Malmö

Kollaborativet operates in the intersection between movement, performance, and visual and installation art. Within the group there is expertise in movement and choreography, object work, scenography, costume, music and sound design, lighting design, photography, animation, and graphic design. Several members also have pedagogical training and experience.

Kollaborativet works co-creatively in its artistic processes, where all performing artists, in addition to their individual areas of expertise, share responsibility for the whole.

Background

Kollaborativet was founded in 2011 as a framework for a group of artists to create projects and collaborations. Between 2015–2018 the project “…när vi lyser för varandra…” was carried out with Allmänna Arvsfonden (the Swedish Inheritance Fund) as the main funder. From 2019–2022 the project “Jag är tid, jag är rum” was realized with the Swedish Postcode Lottery Foundation as the main funder. Both projects have been cornerstones in the group’s work. Learn more about these projects and the spatial productions created through them by clicking on each link. Since 2023, Kollaborativet has received operational funding from Region Skåne and the City of Malmö, as well as support from the Swedish Arts Council.

Sensory Performing Arts for Everyone

Kollaborativet creates performing arts experiences grounded in the body and the present moment, speaking through a sensory language. The expression is tactile, visual, and auditory, aiming to reach many – regardless of language, age, or ability.

Co-creating processes

In close co-creating processes with children and young people with diverse abilities and their teachers, the foundation for Kollaborativet’s performing arts experiences is created.

Dialogue with researchers

Ongoing dialogue and reflection with several theorists and researchers deepens the perspectives we work from, giving them valuable societal and philosophical context. The conversations take place both within the group, as an integrated part of our artistic exploration, and publicly, in the form of seminars and workshops.

Dialogue is ongoing with the following researchers:

Fanny Ambjörnsson, Jonna Bornemark, Helena Dahlberg, Ylva Gislén, and Liselott Mariett Olsson.

Perception

file0.jpg.jpeg

Perception is a network that highlights and drives the discussion about accessible and inclusive performing arts from an audience perspective. How can we create more performing arts for more people to experience?

The network brings together the performing arts sector in Skåne – independent groups, freelancers, institutions, and public administrations – all contributing in different ways to what is offered to audiences.

Perception is a forum for sharing knowledge and resources, developing methods and art forms, and providing inspiration that helps organizations and artists take steps forward, both in practice and thinking, towards more accessible performing arts. Each year, four network meetings are held, each focused on different themes that engage the network.

Perception was started in 2022 on the initiative of Kollaborativet and Skånes Dansteater, inspired by, among others, Universell Scenkonst in Västra Götaland.

In 2023, a steering group was formed with seven actors from the performing arts field: Moomsteatern, Malmö Unga Stadsteater, Malmöfestivalen, Skånes Dansteater, Kreativt lärcentrum at City of Malmö, a freelance scenographer and costume designer, and Kollaborativet.
